Understanding Web3 Salaries & Benchmarks
Global benchmarks for smart contract devs, marketers and PMs — US vs. EU rates.
What drives Web3 salaries
Three factors set your number:
- Role rarity — Solidity, Rust (Solana/Move) and ZK engineers are paid the most because supply is small.
- Funding stage — well-funded L1s and L2s pay closer to FAANG, early DAOs pay less in cash but more in tokens.
- Location of the employer, not yours — US-based remote roles usually pay 30–60% more than EU-based remote roles for the same seniority.
Indicative 2025 ranges (annual base, USD)
Smart contract / protocol engineer
- Junior (0–2y): US remote $110k–150k, EU remote €70k–95k.
- Mid (2–5y): US remote $160k–220k, EU remote €95k–140k.
- Senior (5y+): US remote $220k–320k+, EU remote €140k–200k+.
- Tokens on top: often 0.05%–0.5% of supply with 3–4 year vesting.
ZK / cryptography engineer
- Add 20–40% on top of the smart-contract ranges. Senior ZK engineers regularly clear $350k base + tokens.
Frontend / full-stack (Web3)
- Mid: US $130k–180k, EU €75k–110k.
- Senior: US $180k–250k, EU €110k–160k.
Product manager
- Mid: US $140k–190k, EU €85k–120k.
- Senior / Head of Product: US $200k–280k, EU €130k–180k.
Marketing, growth, community
- Mid: US $90k–140k, EU €55k–85k.
- Senior / Head of Growth: US $160k–230k, EU €90k–140k.
DevRel, BD, partnerships
- Mid: US $130k–180k, EU €70k–110k.
- Senior: US $180k–260k, EU €110k–160k.
US vs. EU rates — why the gap
- US protocols compete with FAANG salaries.
- EU teams are often capped by local market norms and benefits packages.
- Remote ≠ same pay: most companies set bands by employer country, sometimes adjusted by your cost of living.
How to benchmark *your* offer
- Check three independent sources: cryptocurrencyjobs salary surveys, Web3 Talent reports, this site's job listings filtered by seniority.
- Compare total comp, not base: base + bonus + token value × probability of vesting.
- Discount tokens heavily if the project is pre-TGE — assume 30–50% of nominal value.
Negotiation tip
Never give a number first. When asked, answer: "I am looking at the full package — what range did you have in mind for this role?" Then anchor at the top quarter of that range.
