Mastering Remote Work in Global Crypto Teams

The default in Web3 is fully remote and fully global

Your colleagues will sit in 6–10 time zones. There is no office to fall back on. The teams that win are the ones that get async right.

Time zones — pick your overlap window

• Identify a 2–3 hour window where the majority of your team is online. Protect that window for live calls and decisions.
• Outside that window: assume nobody will respond for hours. Plan your work accordingly.
• Rotate inconvenient meeting times. If APAC always takes the 11pm slot, that team eventually burns out.

The async communication stack

• Discord — community, public discussions, support.
• Slack or Telegram — internal team chat, fast back-and-forth.
• Notion / Linear / GitHub Issues — durable knowledge: specs, decisions, tickets.
• Loom / Tella — record a 3-minute video instead of scheduling a meeting.

Rule: if a decision was made in chat, it must be written down somewhere durable within 24 hours, or it did not happen.

Writing for async

• Lead with the ask, then the context. Not the other way around.
• Use bullet points and short paragraphs.
• Use threads. Never dump 10 unrelated topics in one channel.
• Tag people only when you actually need them. Stop @here / @channel forever.

Personal rhythm that survives Web3

• Set a hard end-of-day. Crypto never sleeps — you must.
• Block 2–4 hours of deep work every day with notifications off.
• Take one full day per week with zero crypto Twitter, zero Discord, zero charts.
• Travel will mess up your schedule — communicate it 2 weeks ahead and overlap explicitly.

• A second monitor — non-negotiable for serious devs.
• A wired keyboard, decent mic, good light. You are on video 5+ hours a week.
• A password manager and hardware wallet — security hygiene is part of remote work.

Building trust without a desk

• Ship visible work weekly.
• Write short weekly updates: Last week / This week / Blocked on. Three bullets each.
• Show up to optional team calls now and then — being a face, not just a handle, compounds over time.
