Introduction

For our partner, the Ministry of Defence, we are seeking a Cloud Operations Lead to elevate a highly secured private cloud environment. As the head of a newly formed department, you will work with your teams on new cloud-based applications and systems with a direct impact on military operations, helping to shape the future of warfare. In this key position, you will be responsible for the continuous and secure functioning of a highly secured on-premises private cloud. You will move effortlessly between strategic decision-making and operational management, while leading senior technical teams and managers.

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute the operational strategy for private cloud and core infrastructure.
• Establish multi-year roadmaps for virtualization, container platforms, storage, networking, and identity.
• Ensure high availability, disaster recovery, and capacity management.
• Optimize and secure ITSM processes (incident, change, problem, release).
• Implement security controls according to Zero Trust and NIST frameworks.
• Collaborate intensively with cybersecurity, architecture, and project teams.
• Lead technical teams within a mission-critical environment.

Requirements

• Completed HBO (higher professional education) or WO (university) degree in IT, Computer Science, or Engineering.
• Extensive experience with on-premises private cloud infrastructures.
• Experience with NIST RMF, NIST 800-53, or similar security standards.
• Proven leadership experience in complex infrastructure environments.
• Knowledge of ITSM and service lifecycle management.
• Experience with IAM, encryption, monitoring, and compliance.
• Willingness to undergo a Defence screening.
• Dutch language skills preferred (working knowledge required for this role based in the Netherlands).

Nice to Have

• Certifications such as CISSP, CCSP, CISM, or ITIL 4.
• Experience within government, Defence, or other high-security environments.

Benefits

• Salary based on Defence CAO (Collective Labour Agreement) (scale 13/14).
• Salary based on 38 hours per week.
• Hybrid work (50/50).
• Workplace in Breda.
