Introduction

Galaxy is seeking a highly skilled and experienced VP, Trading Systems Developer to join our team in London. This role is pivotal in designing and building high-performance trading systems that underpin our market data ingestion, order routing, and execution capabilities. As a key contributor, you will focus on minimizing latency, maximizing throughput, and ensuring deterministic performance across critical trading workflows, supporting various business lines including OTC, Market Making, Prop, and Systematic Trading.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and optimize low-latency trading systems using Java, with consideration for C++ experience.
• Implement solutions for market data ingestion, order routing, and trade execution.
• Conduct in-depth optimization of the technology stack, from application to OS, network layers, and supporting hardware.
• Work independently to solve complex analytical and technical problems, taking ownership from identification to resolution.
• Embrace and champion the thoughtful adoption of AI tools (e.g., generative AI, automation platforms, data copilots) to enhance productivity, decision-making, and output quality.
• Contribute cross-cutting solutions applicable to multiple business units within Galaxy.

Requirements

• Excellent core Java programming skills.
• Extensive experience with Java Application and Garbage Collection optimization.
• Exceptional knowledge of concurrency and multithreaded programming paradigms.
• Proven experience in developing low-latency pricing and trading systems.
• Familiarity with low-latency messaging technologies (e.g., Aeron, 29West).
• Solid understanding of networking fundamentals including TCP/UDP, multicast, routing, switching, and congestion control.
• Experience with kernel bypass technologies (e.g., DPDK, Solarflare/OpenOnload, RDMA).
• Familiarity with Linux internals, including scheduling, memory management, and performance tuning.

Nice to Have

• eFX development experience in a low-latency, zero-GC environment.
• Knowledge of institutional encodings (e.g., FIX, SBE).
• Experience with fault-tolerant, high-availability, and distributed computing systems.
• Proficiency with containerization technologies like Docker and Kubernetes, and cloud platforms like AWS.
