Technical Deployment Lead, Semiconductors

Introduction

OpenAI's Forward Deployed Engineering (FDE) team is looking for a Technical Deployment Lead (TDL) to drive the delivery of complex AI systems to Semiconductor customers. This role involves turning research breakthroughs into production-grade solutions, embedding with customers to solve high-leverage problems, and shaping the deployment of next-generation AI capabilities.

Responsibilities

• Own the technical delivery plan for multiple interdependent work streams, translating customer objectives into a roadmap with milestones, dependencies, and acceptance criteria.
• Run day-to-day engineering execution by tracking and driving delivery across OpenAI FDE and customer teams, ensuring progress is unblocked and sequenced, and making real-time trade-offs on scope and priority.
• Embed with Semiconductor customer teams to land production deployments and drive adoption, mapping workflows, shaping tools/integrations, and translating requirements into a delivery plan.
• Shape production deployments that integrate with customer infrastructure, data systems, and engineering toolchains, including export-controlled environments.
• Partner with Product and Research teams to ensure platform components and research work streams align with deployment goals.
• Codify solution patterns and evaluations, extracting reusable patterns and packaging field signals to improve products and models.
• Own value cases and ROI, setting impact hypotheses, baselines, and KPIs, and reporting pre-/post-deployment measurement to executive sponsors.
• Help define how OpenAI engages Semiconductor customers.

Requirements

• 7+ years of customer-facing technical delivery leadership experience.
• Deep expertise in Semiconductor workflows, including RTL design, verification, EDA tooling, and physical implementation.
• Proven track record of successfully leading large, complex, high-stakes customer engagements where customer outcomes depended on tight coordination and fast decision-making, ideally involving AI.
• Ability to excel in high ambiguity environments and simplify complex and dynamic work.
• Fluid movement between system-level understanding and execution-level detail; capable of diving into customer workflows/data, mapping constraints, sketching architectures, and moving ambiguous problems to shipped systems.
• Strategic thinker with strong pattern-matching abilities, able to identify broader trends across deployments and connect customer needs to scalable, reusable solutions.
• Strong technical fluency and sharp sequencing instincts, confident in discussing technical details, pressure-testing architectures, and making trade-offs.
• Experience shipping AI/LLM systems, understanding solution patterns, integration basics, and production pitfalls.
• Excellent communication skills with executive presence, capable of making complex technical trade-offs legible to business leaders and converting strategy into day-to-day technical execution.
• Willingness to travel onsite with customers to accelerate delivery (often 25-50%, sometimes higher).
