Technical Architect (Rust) - Governance Team

IOHK (Input Output Hong Kong) is a blockchain research and development company founded by Charles Hoskinson and Jeremy Wood. It is primarily known for its work on the Cardano blockchain platform.

Introduction

IO Global is seeking a Technical Architect (Rust) to join its Governance team. This team is central to realizing IOG’s corporate vision for open governance of the Cardano blockchain, facilitating a smooth transition to community-led governance. Key initiatives include Voltaire (open governance), Catalyst (ecosystem management), and other strategic governance priorities.

This role involves designing the core technical components for the open governance framework, including blockchain, database, and related tooling. These components will be integrated into a public Open Governance API and released as open-source software. The architect will collaborate closely with Product, Technical, and other Governance team members to ensure successful implementation.

Responsibilities

• Support agile software development practices.
• Participate in planning, definition, and high-level design of governance solutions, exploring alternative approaches.
• Provide technical advice for work prioritization decisions.
• Communicate complex technical details to scientists, researchers, and developers.
• Summarize proposed solutions' technical aspects for management and business decision-makers.
• Ensure adherence to recommended software engineering principles.
• Enable continuous feature delivery through appropriate architectural design and established timelines.
• Define subsystems and their interfaces, clearly allocating responsibilities.
• Establish and raise awareness of critical non-functional requirements.
• Ensure products do not rely on unstable or immature external libraries.
• Select optimal solutions to technical problems.
• Consider the cost implications of architectural decisions during joint decision-making.
• Manage and evolve legacy solutions, integrating with legacy technology as appropriate.
• Develop a deep technical understanding of problems and solution spaces.
• Maintain a strong and up-to-date grasp of Computer Science and Engineering techniques.
• Recognize personal knowledge limitations and seek external expertise when necessary.
• Provide technical guidance and support to software engineers.

Requirements

• Degree in Computer Science/Engineering.
• Minimum of 2-3 years of industrial/commercial development experience.
• Minimum of 1 year as a Technical Architect.
• Minimum of 1 year as a leader of a software development team.
• Practical experience with Agile software development methods.
• Experience with Git and Git workflow.
• Knowledge of functional and object-oriented programming paradigms.
• Experience collaborating with scientists, researchers, and formal methods specialists.
• Proficiency in selected programming languages (e.g., Haskell, Javascript, Rust, Scala).
• Proven aptitude in written and oral communication, organization, and problem-solving.
• Implementation expertise.
• Software Design expertise.
• Experience in documenting and explaining designs.
• Relevant technical background (e.g., blockchain).
