Introduction

We are looking for a Technical Application Engineer for an innovative and international organization in the Middelburg region. In this role, you will collaborate closely with IT teams, functional owners, and external suppliers to ensure that the application landscape is stable, secure, and optimally aligned with both operational and strategic needs. You will be responsible for implementing, managing, and optimizing business-critical applications that support complex engineering and project environments, ensuring maximum availability, performance, and security. You operate at the intersection of infrastructure, applications, and security, managing the full technical lifecycle from configuration and upgrades to integrations and troubleshooting.

Responsibilities

• Design and maintain secure and scalable technical application solutions.
• Perform technical application management (configuration, maintenance, upgrades, patching) and ensure availability.
• Monitor application performance, resolve incidents, and conduct root cause analyses.
• Implement and maintain security measures at the application level.
• Manage integrations between applications, infrastructure, identity services, and external systems.
• Support application-related changes and incidents.
• Actively contribute to the continuous improvement of the application platform, adhering to internal guidelines and procedures, and maintaining necessary technical documentation.
• Actively share knowledge to promote expertise within the department.

Requirements

• MBO-4 diploma or Bachelor's degree (3–5 years of experience) in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, or a comparable field.
• Solid knowledge of enterprise application architectures (client-server, multi-tier, web, SaaS).
• Relevant certifications such as Microsoft, Citrix, 3DX, Primavera; ITIL Foundation is a plus.
• Practical experience with installation, configuration, and technical management of applications.
• Strong problem-solving skills in operating systems, middleware, and connectivity.
• Familiarity with security principles such as hardening and access control.
• Preferably experience in the maritime, defense, or engineering sector.
• Excellent command of the English language.
• Excellent references, as a security screening is part of the application procedure.
• Permanent EU citizenship and an EU passport are required. Candidates with an EU (work) visa or with both EU and non-EU nationality and/or passport are not eligible due to the military nature of the projects.
• Dutch language skills preferred (working knowledge required for this role based in the Netherlands).

Benefits

• A monthly salary between €4,000 and €6,100 based on a 40-hour work week (depending on experience).
• 38 vacation days.
• Travel allowance: €0.23 per kilometer (up to €300 per month).
