Responsibilities

As a System Engineer, you will work with the team to ensure optimal functioning of AFAS's IT infrastructures. This includes taking responsibility for thousands of servers, VMware, Active Directory, Office365/Azure, Citrix XenApp, SQL-Server, and hundreds of workstations in a predominantly Windows-based environment. Due to the constantly changing ICT environment, no day is the same.

In addition to internal system administration, you and the team will ensure that over 12,000 customers can work seamlessly on our AFAS Online platform. This is a unique opportunity not found in any other organization. AFAS Online allows customers to use AFAS software as an application without having to perform installations and updates themselves.

The team consists of 12 colleagues, each with their own specialty. We will, of course, help you get started with all systems and procedures so you can discover what you contribute to our department and IT infrastructures!

You will be involved in:

• Designing, managing, and optimizing networks, servers, and infrastructures.
• Improving the stability and scalability of our SaaS environment, AFAS Online.
• Supporting System Administrators with technical questions requiring deeper expertise.
• Automating management and processes, for example, with PowerShell and DSC.
• Identifying and implementing improvements in performance, manageability, and efficiency.

You will also participate in on-call duties and active daytime shifts, ensuring you stay close to practical operations and understand what's happening on the ground.

Requirements

• HBO or WO level of thinking and working.
• Available to work 40 hours per week.
• In-depth knowledge and passion for the profession.
• Analytical and flexible work attitude.
• You work independently and meticulously.
• You continuously automate your own work.
• Dutch language skills preferred (working knowledge required for this role based in the Netherlands).
• Coding skills, such as scripting in PowerShell. This is a significant plus!
• Ensuring our systems are operational 24/7 and 365 days a year.
• You are proficient in networks, servers, virtualization, and infrastructure.
• You have experience with automation and scripting, for example, with PowerShell and DSC.
• You can work with enterprise products in a Windows Server environment.
• You have at least 4 to 5 years of experience in a System Engineer role or similar.
• You think proactively and don't wait for something to break.
• You make independent decisions and can explain your choices (not just relying on gut feeling).
• You collaborate easily with colleagues.
