Software Engineer II - Platform

The mission of Invitae is to bring comprehensive genetic information into mainstream medicine to improve healthcare for everyone. We are looking for an experienced Software Engineer to join our Platform team. Our Platform team is responsible for building and maintaining the core services and infrastructure that power Invitae's genetic testing and data analysis platforms. As a Software Engineer II, you will play a key role in designing, developing, and deploying robust, scalable, and secure services. You'll work on critical infrastructure components, APIs, and data pipelines that enable our scientists and clinicians to deliver genetic insights to patients.

As a Software Engineer II on the Platform team, you will:

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable and resilient backend services using modern programming languages (e.g., Python, Go, Java) and frameworks.
• Build and optimize data pipelines for processing and analyzing large genetic datasets.
• Work with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, GCP) to deploy and manage infrastructure.
• Implement and advocate for best practices in software development, including testing, code reviews, and CI/CD.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product managers, scientists, and other engineers, to define requirements and deliver solutions.
• Participate in on-call rotations to ensure the reliability and availability of our services.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to a culture of continuous learning and improvement.

What you bring:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 2+ years of professional experience in software development.
• Strong proficiency in at least one modern programming language (Python, Go, Java preferred).
• Experience with designing and building RESTful APIs.
• Familiarity with relational and/or NoSQL databases.
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
• Understanding of distributed systems and microservices architecture.
• Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.

Bonus Points:

• Experience with containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Knowledge of event-driven architectures and message queues (Kafka, RabbitMQ).
• Experience in the healthcare or genomics domain.
• Contributions to open-source projects.
