Software Engineer II - Platform

SmartThings is looking for a passionate and experienced Software Engineer II to join our Platform team in Mountain View, CA. As a Software Engineer II, you will play a crucial role in building and maintaining the core services and infrastructure that power the SmartThings ecosystem. You will work on critical backend systems, design and implement scalable solutions, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver a seamless and reliable experience for millions of users.

Responsibilities: — Design, develop, test, deploy, maintain and improve software on critical backend systems. — Build and operate large-scale, fault-tolerant, and distributed services. — Participate in all phases of the software development lifecycle, including requirements gathering, design, coding, testing, deployment, and operational support. — Collaborate with product managers, designers, and other engineers to define and implement new features and services. — Write clear, concise, and well-documented code. — Contribute to code reviews and mentor junior engineers. — Troubleshoot and resolve production issues.

Skills & Qualifications: — Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience. — 3+ years of experience with software development in one or more general purpose programming languages (e.g. Java, C/C++, Python). — Experience with distributed systems and microservices architecture. — Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, GCP, Azure). — Strong understanding of data structures, algorithms, and object-oriented design. — Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail. — Ability to work independently and as part of a team. — Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
