Senior Technical Program Manager - Security

Introduction

OpenAI, a leader in AI research and deployment, is seeking a Senior Technical Program Manager to spearhead cross-functional security, privacy, IT, and compliance initiatives. This role is crucial for ensuring the security of our infrastructure, protecting sensitive data, and adhering to global compliance standards as we scale our powerful AI systems like ChatGPT and the OpenAI API.

Responsibilities

• Drive the execution of critical security and compliance programs, including vulnerability management, M&A security integration, infrastructure hardening, and datacenter security management, collaborating deeply on technical architecture and problem resolution with engineering teams.
• Partner with IT, Infrastructure, Application, Legal, Privacy, and Security teams to develop scalable programs and deliver vital security outcomes across various disciplines, such as insider threat, information security, physical security, and information technology.
• Establish adaptable frameworks and create programs for key security initiatives, including vulnerability management, evidence collection, incident response coordination, supply chain risk management, and device security.
• Monitor and enforce OpenAI’s privacy and security requirements by translating commitments into engineering milestones and ensuring their comprehensive implementation across all systems.
• Maintain program-level transparency across risk areas, security milestones, and inter-organizational dependencies, guaranteeing reliable and high-quality outcomes.
• Clearly communicate status, risks, tradeoffs, and decisions to technical and executive audiences, fostering urgent and careful cross-functional execution.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience leading complex technical programs focused on infrastructure security, data privacy, compliance, or enterprise platform capabilities.
• Deep fluency in the interplay between engineering systems, security controls, and regulatory expectations, with the ability to bring clarity and structure across all three.
• Proven track record of successfully driving highly cross-functional efforts involving engineering, infrastructure, legal, compliance, and product stakeholders.
• Empathetic communication and leadership skills, capable of influencing diverse technical and non-technical audiences and fostering lasting trust with partners.
• Structured, detail-oriented, and rigorous in ensuring quality, accountability, and robust delivery.
• Ability to thrive in high-trust environments, apply systems thinking to ambiguity, and operate with a bias for aligned execution beyond organizational boundaries.
