Senior System Engineer

Introduction

Backbase is seeking a Senior System Engineer to maintain and enhance our internal systems and infrastructure in Amsterdam. This role is crucial for improving the efficiency, security, and scalability of our IT environment, offering a unique opportunity to work with cutting-edge technology in a dynamic global company.

Responsibilities

• System Administration: Oversee daily operations of Windows and Linux servers, ensuring optimal performance and reliability. Implement and manage virtualization technologies (VMware, Hyper-V, KVM) to optimize resource utilization. Deploy, configure, and maintain Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and storage solutions. Monitor system health, performance, and security, proactively identifying and resolving issues. Conduct regular system audits and implement security best practices.
• Scripting and Automation: Develop and maintain automation scripts using PowerShell, Python, or Bash to streamline routine tasks and improve operational efficiency. Utilize configuration management tools (Ansible, Chef, Puppet) to automate infrastructure provisioning and management.
• Troubleshooting and Support: Provide advanced technical support for system-related issues, collaborating with other IT teams and departments. Diagnose and resolve complex hardware and software problems, ensuring minimal disruption to business operations.
• Documentation and Knowledge Sharing: Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for system configurations, processes, and procedures. Share knowledge and expertise with team members, fostering a collaborative and learning-oriented environment.
• Project Participation: Contribute to and lead various IT projects, including system upgrades, migrations, and new technology deployments. Evaluate and recommend new technologies and solutions to enhance the existing infrastructure.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
• 5+ years of experience as a System Engineer or in a similar role.
• Strong expertise in administering both Windows and Linux server environments.
• Proven experience with virtualization technologies (VMware, Hyper-V, KVM).
• Proficiency in at least one scripting language (PowerShell, Python, or Bash).
• Familiarity with Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and storage solutions.
• Solid understanding of networking concepts and protocols.
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills with a proactive approach to issue resolution.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Nice to Have

• Relevant certifications (MCSC, LPIC, VMware Certified Professional).
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
• Exposure to containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).
