About the Position

Introduction

Mollie is looking for a Senior Staff Software Engineer to join our rapidly growing Engineering team. This role is based in our Amsterdam or Lisbon offices and offers the chance to contribute to state-of-the-art technologies, directly impacting Mollie’s products and customers.

Responsibilities

Shape the technical vision and strategy for your product area, ensuring alignment with existing systems and the overall technical direction.
Design, develop, and deploy complex software systems in a fast-paced environment.
Identify and resolve critical technical challenges and architectural deficiencies across teams.
Collaborate closely with various teams and stakeholders to foster alignment and consistency.
Mentor engineers (including Principal Engineers), share knowledge, and promote best practices across the organization.
Lead by example in code quality, troubleshoot complex issues, and advocate for continuous improvement.
Contribute to Mollie's engineering culture by suggesting, driving, and implementing initiatives that empower engineers and product people to focus on customer-centric delivery.

Requirements

Extensive experience (10+ years) in software development, with a proven track record of designing and delivering large-scale, distributed systems.
Technical expertise in system design, architecture, and backend development (ideally with Scala and/or Golang).
Experience working in agile environments and across multiple teams.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
Passion for mentoring and developing junior engineers.

Nice to Have

Domain experience in FinTech, Payments, or high-volume transactional systems.
Experience with Event-Driven Architecture, CI/CD, Kafka, Kubernetes, AWS, and Observability tools and practices.
