Senior Staff Engineer, Platform

Karat is the world leader in technical interviewing. We’re helping companies like Google, Walmart, and American Express improve their hiring process and unlock a new talent pool. We’ve grown 2.5x in the last year, facilitated 100,000+ interviews, and doubled our headcount. We're looking for a Senior Staff Engineer, Platform to help us scale from 100,000 to 1,000,000 interviews and beyond. This is a critical role on our Platform team, responsible for building the foundation of our engineering systems. You'll be involved in architectural decisions, designing robust and scalable services, and ensuring the reliability and performance of our platform.

As a Senior Staff Engineer, Platform, you will:

• Drive technical strategy and roadmap for 1-2 major functional areas of our platform.
• Design and build core services and APIs that power our interviewing platform.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to other engineers.
• Collaborate closely with product, design, and other engineering teams to deliver high-quality solutions.
• Optimize our platform for scalability, reliability, and performance.
• Contribute to our engineering culture and best practices.

Qualifications:

• 10+ years of professional software development experience.
• 5+ years of experience building and operating large-scale distributed systems.
• Strong expertise in at least one major programming language (e.g., Python, Go, Java, C#).
• Deep understanding of cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure).
• Experience with microservices architecture, containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), and CI/CD.
• Excellent problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
