Senior Staff Engineer, Platform Security

We are looking for a Senior Staff Engineer to join our Platform Security team on an exciting journey as we make some big leaps forward in providing the best possible payment services for our customers. You will act as a force multiplier, making Mollie more secure and resilient while enabling other teams to focus on their core product. This role is a hybrid role, where you'll be working 2 days per week from our Amsterdam office.

What you'll be doing:

• Provide technical leadership in Platform Security: You will be the primary technical authority, setting the direction and architecture for securing the company's core platform elements, including Kubernetes, internal tools like the CI/CD pipeline, identity management, and cloud infrastructure on GCP.
• Design and implement robust security solutions: You will lead the design, implementation, and maintenance of scalable and resilient security architectures, ensuring they integrate seamlessly with existing systems and future growth. This includes hands-on development leveraging modern programming languages (Go, Python) and cloud technologies.
• Drive security best practices: You will work closely with engineering teams to embed security best practices into the development lifecycle, promoting a security-conscious culture. Your expertise will be crucial in mentoring engineers and advocating for secure coding and infrastructure-as-code principles.
• Shape Mollie's security strategy: You will influence the overall security roadmap, identifying emerging threats and opportunities to enhance Mollie's security posture. Your strategic insights will guide the adoption of innovative security technologies and processes.
• Collaborate and educate: You will foster strong relationships across engineering, product, and operations teams, providing expert guidance on security matters and conducting training sessions to raise awareness and capability.
• Incident response and threat modeling: You will play a key role in incident response, helping to mitigate security breaches and develop proactive measures based on threat modeling and risk assessments.
• Automate security workflows: You will drive initiatives to automate security validation, testing, and deployment processes, improving efficiency and reducing the human error factor.

What you'll need:

• 8+ years of hands-on experience in platform security or similar roles.
• Demonstrated expertise in securing cloud-native environments (e.g., Kubernetes, serverless, microservices) on GCP.
• Strong proficiency in one or more programming languages (e.g., Go, Python) for developing security tools and automation.
• Deep understanding of identity and access management (IAM), network security, data encryption, and vulnerability management.
• Experience with CI/CD pipeline security and infrastructure-as-code principles.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and lead without direct authority.
• Proven track record of driving security initiatives from conception to successful implementation.

Nice to have:

• Experience in the fintech or payments industry.
• Experience with security compliance frameworks (PCI DSS, ISO 27001).
• Relevant security certifications (e.g., CISSP, CISM, GSEC).
