Introduction

Mercury is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join its Stability team. This role is crucial for ensuring the reliability and robustness of Mercury's powerful banking services, empowering product engineers to maintain system integrity through enhanced observability, incident response, background processing, and platform health monitoring.

Responsibilities

• Lead Projects End-to-End: Drive technical projects from conception to production, defining solutions, analyzing tradeoffs, making critical decisions, and delivering sustainable software.
• Champion Reliability: Make technical choices that enhance system reliability, advocating for and implementing best practices. Participate in Stability's on-call rotation and propose improvements based on real-world experience.
• Measure Your Outcomes: Define and collect metrics to demonstrate the business value created by your work.
• Approach Code with Craft: Write clear, testable, and maintainable code, establishing patterns and best practices to ensure long-term scalability and reliability.
• Build for Quality & Sustainability: Design extensible systems, manage technical debt effectively, plan meticulous rollouts, and take ownership of work quality through post-launch monitoring.
• Improve the Developer Experience: Adopt a product mindset, engaging with internal customers to gather feedback and provide support, focusing on both technical design and business impact.

Requirements

• Expertise in PostgreSQL, including query optimization, tuning, replication, pooling/proxying, or client-side libraries.
• Experience with other data systems supporting relational databases (e.g., event streaming, OLAP, caches).
• Ability to author and operate Temporal workflows.
• Familiarity with tracing and OpenTelemetry.
• Proven experience leading moderate-to-large technical projects, including planning, execution, and stakeholder management.
• Previous experience in Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) or DevOps.
• Experience with Haskell or other functional programming languages.
