About the Position

Introduction

Bitso is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Java Software Engineer to join our Mercury Team. This role is pivotal in driving technical decisions, implementing cutting-edge solutions, and ensuring the highest quality and scalability of our systems. You will play a key role in guiding and mentoring other engineers and shaping the technical direction of our applications.

Responsibilities

Deliver high-performance, scalable code that meets the demands of hundreds of thousands of daily users.
Design and implement comprehensive software tests to ensure robust and reliable systems.
Conduct thorough and respectful code reviews, maintaining the highest quality standards across the team.
Efficiently debug and resolve issues, minimizing disruption and maintaining system integrity.
Advocate for engineering best practices, promoting efficiency, continuous improvement, and innovation.
Engage with the broader Bitso engineering community, contributing to knowledge sharing, innovation, and effective problem-solving.

Requirements

Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
Proven track record in Java development, including designing, developing, and maintaining robust Java applications.
Deep technical expertise in core Java concepts, including multithreading, concurrency, and runtime optimization.
Proficiency in designing scalable and high-performance architectures, with a focus on microservices, RESTful APIs, and cloud-native solutions.
Commitment to continuous improvement, staying updated with the latest trends and advancements in Java and related technologies.
Ability to work independently with a proactive, "get it done" attitude.
Strong design skills in Java and Spring, with expertise in API design, implementation, and testing (Object-Oriented and Functional Programming).
Experience with Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment tools like Maven, Gradle, and Github Actions.
Ability to architect scalable and efficient systems, with a deep understanding of software design principles (Software Architecture and System Design).
Strong expertise in database management, including PostgreSQL, with hands-on experience in database migrations and schema evolution.
Comprehensive understanding of modern cloud environments and the design of microservices and distributed systems (Cloud Architectures, Microservices, and Distributed Systems).
Proficiency with Kubernetes and Docker for smooth deployment and orchestration.
Quick to grasp and adapt to new domains, translating complex requirements into effective technical solutions (Domain Understanding).
