About the Position

Introduction

Are you a Senior Software Engineer with a passion for cutting-edge AI and API technologies? Kong is seeking a Field Applications Engineer to join their Innovation Group within Professional Services. This role focuses on developing automated migration solutions using AI Coding Agents for enterprise customers, blending software engineering, AI/LLM integration, and API gateway expertise.

Responsibilities

Help customers successfully migrate legacy API gateways by designing and building solutions, addressing technical challenges, and providing hands-on implementation support to consultants and customer technical teams.
Engage with customers on migration projects, guiding them through the installation and implementation of Kong solutions.
Lead customer discussions, drive outcome-based professional services, and provide technical thought leadership on field solutions.
Collaborate closely with Kong’s cross-functional teams (Product, Engineering, Customer Success, CRE) to maximize customer value.
Develop internal solutions & tools for the wider field organization to advance technical capabilities and improve subscriber value delivery.
Write and edit technical documentation and knowledge base articles for developed solutions.

Requirements

6+ years of relevant software development experience.
Hands-on implementation experience with API gateways and/or API integrations in customer environments.
Practical working knowledge of APIs, containers, and microservices.
Proficient in Linux environments, including Cloud and Development tooling.
Experience building and deploying software solutions using AI Coding Agents.
Experience with application development and multiple programming languages.
BS in Computer Science / BA or equivalent technical development experience.
Strong organizational and change management skills with the ability to manage competing customer demands.
Proven team player and solution builder who thrives in a fast-growing, dynamic environment.
Ability to occasionally travel to customer sites and Kong locations as needed.

Nice to Have

Experience with major cloud providers such as GCP, AWS, and Azure.
Experience with Google Apigee or IBM API Connect & Data Power.
