Introduction

Mercury is building a bank and seeks a Senior Software Engineer for their Banking Integration Platform as a Service team. This critical role involves connecting Mercury's modern engineering systems to enterprise core banking systems and payment networks, similar to how NASA's RPOD team handles complex integrations for the Space Shuttle and ISS.

Responsibilities

• Build Mercury’s integration with an FFIEC-approved bank core and payment networks.
• Design internal APIs for product teams, offering simple and consistent interfaces to complex external systems.
• Manage enterprise integration challenges such as retries, failures, format mismatches, and downtime.
• Develop data pipelines to synchronize Mercury's systems with their bank core.
• Be responsible for monitoring, alerting, and recovery of critical external connections.
• Collaborate with other teams at Mercury to establish clean boundaries and reliable contracts.
• Contribute to shaping the technical architecture of Mercury Bank*.

Requirements

• Direct experience with an FFIEC-compliant bank core (e.g., FIS) or a US-based Global Systemically Important Bank (G-SIB).
• Deep understanding of core banking systems including accounts, transactions, ledgers, and their underlying data models.
• Product-minded engineer who prioritizes the experience of API consumers.
• Enjoys building new systems rather than maintaining established ones.
• Comfortable with Haskell and TypeScript or eager to learn them.
• Possesses strong opinions on building reliable and maintainable systems.
