About the Position

Introduction

Front is a customer operations platform designed for complex B2B interactions, helping over 9,000 companies like Uber Freight, Navan, and Stripe keep teams, tools, and conversations synchronized. The Foundations team is crucial, building and owning the backend frameworks, libraries, and internal systems—from event-driven task queues to CI/CD infrastructure and database ORMs—that enable other engineering teams to build efficiently and confidently. This role is ideal for engineers passionate about scaling systems, enhancing developer experience, and shaping architectural patterns for an entire organization.

Responsibilities

Build and maintain shared backend frameworks, libraries, and internal tooling for engineering teams across Front.
Design and implement reliable, observable, and performant systems, including task queues, batch job frameworks, database ORMs, and real-time event infrastructure.
Own and evolve CI/CD systems to ensure fast, reliable, and secure delivery pipelines.
Collaborate with other engineering teams to understand needs, establish shared patterns, and drive the adoption of new frameworks.
Influence Front's backend architecture and engineering-wide standards.
Navigate ambiguity, define problems, and deliver solutions for complex challenges.

Requirements

Strong experience as a backend JavaScript/TypeScript engineer (this role does not focus on frontend development).
Experience building frameworks, libraries, and/or developer-facing internal tools.
Experience building distributed systems with an emphasis on reliability, observability, and performance.
Exceptional software design fundamentals and a proven track record of delivering high-complexity projects.
Clear, structured thinking and strong communication skills to explain technical tradeoffs to other engineers.
Comfort navigating ambiguity and driving clarity and execution without a fully defined roadmap.
Ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced, collaborative, low-ego, and high-growth environment.

Nice to Have

Deep TypeScript performance optimization experience.
Prior work on platform or enablement teams at a product-led company.
