About the Position

Responsibilities

Independently own and execute features, focusing on efficiency, scalability, and reliability.
Build APIs for internal and external use.
Proactively ensure Common Room's core capabilities, infrastructure, and systems meet current and future needs.
Contribute to important company-building initiatives within a fast-growing startup environment.
Collaborate effectively with other experienced engineers, including application/front-end developers.
Exercise good judgment on technical tradeoffs and tool selection, preferring stable technologies.
Design systems with customer problems in mind, creating simple and elegant solutions.
Consider observability, SLA, and scalability implications, avoiding premature optimization.
Manage time and priorities sustainably.
Demonstrate pride, ownership, and accountability for work.

Requirements

6+ years of experience in relevant roles.
Ability to learn quickly about products, business, and technology.
Proficiency with AWS, PostgreSQL, and Node.js.
Capacity to operate independently while seeking help when needed.
Excitement for and capability in owning large backend projects.
Ability to engage in candid and respectful feedback.

Nice to Have

Experience with TypeScript for backend development.
Familiarity with TypeGraphQL for API endpoints.
Experience with Apollo/Express as a web server.
Knowledge of ClickHouse for database needs.
Experience with React for front-end development.
