Senior Mobile Engineer

Introduction

Solflare is a rapidly expanding crypto wallet, securing over $20 billion in digital assets for around 4 million monthly active users. We are building a powerful gateway to Web3 focused on true financial independence. We're looking for a Senior Mobile Engineer to lead the development of our mobile applications, drive critical technical decisions, and ensure a seamless, secure, and performant user experience.

Responsibilities

• Drive continuous improvement: Proactively identify and act on opportunities to improve code, processes, product, and personal workflows.
• Reason from first principles: Question assumptions and commit fully to the best path forward, even if it's not your initial idea.
• Own the outcome, not just the code: Monitor crash reports, read reviews, and observe app performance on various devices. The job finishes when the user experience is optimal, not just when code is merged.
• Make pragmatic trade-offs: Strategically decide when to over-engineer and when to deliver quickly, documenting decisions without moralizing about technical debt.
• Treat the codebase as a product: Write clean, testable code that other engineers and QA can easily read, test, and safely modify. Focus on structure, naming, and testability.
• Use AI as a force multiplier: Leverage AI tools for tasks like scaffolding, refactoring, and test stub generation. Employ agent-style workflows when appropriate, reviewing AI output rigorously.
• Communicate in writing: Document complex technical details in platforms like Notion and explain decisions asynchronously. Important discussions should always be written down.
• Stay current with the platform: Keep up-to-date with mobile ecosystem developments (e.g., WWDC, Google I/O) and integrate new ideas to keep the app modern.

Requirements

• 7+ years of mobile experience: Proven track record of shipping production-ready mobile applications, learning from successes and failures, and working autonomously.
• Deep mobile fundamentals: Strong understanding of mobile platform mechanics: lifecycle, memory management, threading, networking, storage, and rendering. Ability to reason about problems across Flutter, native iOS, and native Android.
• Native platform depth: Advanced expertise in either iOS or Android for debugging complex issues and designing stable integrations.
• Architectural judgment: Ability to structure codebases for parallel team work, understanding trade-offs between abstractions, modularity, and complexity.
• Performance and resilience engineering: Proficiency with profiling tools, identifying bottlenecks, and ensuring robust app behavior across diverse devices and network conditions.
• Security awareness: Familiarity with secure storage, encryption, SSL pinning, common mobile attack surfaces, and secure handling of sensitive on-device data, especially critical for self-custodial wallets.
• AI-augmented engineering: Fluent in using AI coding tools effectively, understanding their strengths and limitations. Capable of building, prompting, and evaluating agent-style workflows.
• Code review and mentorship: Provide constructive feedback that improves both the codebase and team members. Engage in productive disagreements and support collective growth.
• Written communication: Ability to clearly explain complex technical concepts, write comprehensive design documents, and decision records that remain valuable long-term.

Nice to Have

• Cryptography knowledge: Hands-on understanding of keypairs, signing, key derivation, and seed phrases beyond library calls, critical for wallet security.
• Hardware-backed security experience: Experience with iOS Secure Enclave, Android Keystore, or similar technologies, understanding their guarantees and limitations.
• Backend systems literacy: Ability to reason about backend services, APIs, data flows, and failure modes when debugging across the client-server boundary.
• Product builder track record: Experience taking a product from concept to launch, including understanding the less glamorous aspects of product development.
• Shipped in a high-stakes domain: Experience in sensitive fields like payments, banking, healthcare, or identity, where release failures have significant consequences. Self-custodial crypto aligns with this.
• Crypto context: A solid understanding of EVM/SVM-based cryptocurrencies is a plus, though teachable.
