As a Senior Experience Design Consultant, you don't have to choose between thinking and doing; you do both. You will work on complex issues where strategy, service design, and UX converge, tackling assignments from strategic problem definition to concrete UX flows and prototypes. You understand that strategic impact often comes from building trust through practical application.

Responsibilities

Work on diverse assignments, from strategic design projects to UX design within complex client environments.
Help clients clarify the real question behind the assignment: what is the problem, for whom, and where is the value?
Conduct research, analyze user and stakeholder insights, and translate them into concrete design choices.
Create journey maps, service blueprints, design principles, concepts, prototypes, and UX deliverables.
Design and facilitate workshops, co-creation sessions, and stakeholder meetings.
Advise clients on where design can add strategic value, even if it's not explicitly stated in the initial brief.
Collaborate with strategists, technologists, business consultants, and client teams in multidisciplinary environments.
Identify opportunities to deepen or broaden existing client requests and facilitate discussions on these topics.
Contribute to the further development of our design practice, methods, and thought leadership.

Requirements

Education: A Bachelor's or Master's degree, preferably in Design, Interaction Design, Service Design, Communication & Multimedia Design, Human-Computer Interaction, or a similar field.
Experience: Minimum of 6 years of relevant work experience, a significant portion of which is in a consultancy, agency, or advisory context. You have experience beyond exclusively in-house roles and understand the difference between a client relationship and an assignment, and what it takes to succeed in both.
Languages: You speak and write excellent Dutch and English.
Proven experience with:
- UX Design: From user insights to flows, wireframes, prototypes, and concrete improvements.
- Service Design: Journey mapping, service blueprinting, stakeholder analysis, and designing end-to-end experiences.
- User Research: Qualitative research, interviews, observations, synthesis, and translating insights into design choices.
- Facilitation: Designing and guiding workshops, co-creation sessions, and decision-making sessions.
- Consultancy: Problem articulation, stakeholder management, advising under uncertainty, and working in complex client environments.
- Strategic Design: Connecting client needs, organizational goals, user requirements, and design principles.
- Commercial Sensitivity: Recognizing when a client's request extends beyond the initial brief and addressing it credibly and substantively.
Experience within public or semi-public organizations is a significant advantage.
UI design is not your primary focus, but you are proficient with design tools and can collaborate effectively with UI specialists, developers, and product teams.
Dutch language skills preferred (working knowledge required for this role based in the Netherlands).

Nice to Have

Comfortable in environments where not everything is clear, handling different interests, political dynamics, and changing client demands.
Knowing when to slow down to understand a problem thoroughly and when to accelerate to create something tangible.
Senior enough to operate independently with clients, but practical enough to perform design work yourself.
