Introduction

Backbase is building a category-leading Engagement Banking Platform, and we're looking for a Senior Database Engineer to join our new Business Development Center in Krakow, Poland. You will provide crucial support to internal teams and ensure optimal performance and uptime of our data-driven platform.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain robust and scalable PostgreSQL and MongoDB databases, ensuring high availability, performance, and data integrity (e.g., schema design, indexes, partitions).
• Collaborate with software engineers, architects, and other stakeholders to understand data requirements and translate them into efficient database solutions supporting our multi-cloud deployment (e.g., AWS, Azure, on-premises).
• Implement and manage database security measures, including user authentication, access control, encryption, and auditing.
• Perform database monitoring, tuning, and optimization to identify and resolve performance bottlenecks, ensuring optimal query execution and resource utilization (e.g., query optimization, server configuration).
• Develop and maintain backup and recovery strategies, performing regular data backups and testing recovery procedures to minimize data loss and ensure business continuity.
• Troubleshoot and resolve database-related issues, including performance problems, connectivity issues, and data discrepancies.
• Automate database provisioning, configuration, and management tasks using scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash) and infrastructure-as-code tools (e.g., Terraform, Ansible).
• Stay up-to-date with emerging database technologies and best practices, evaluating and recommending new tools and approaches to improve database infrastructure and operations.

Requirements

• Minimum 5 years of experience with multi-cloud deployments (AWS, Azure, on-premises) and database management in distributed environments.
• Proficiency in SQL query optimization and database performance tuning, especially with PostgreSQL and MongoDB.
• Strong understanding of database security principles and best practices.
• Experience with database backup and recovery strategies.
• Solid experience in diagnosing, troubleshooting and resolving database performance and other issues in high-pressure, enterprise-class, mission-critical production environments (both on-premises and in the cloud).
• Strong knowledge of DevOps principles and practices, including CI/CD pipelines.
• Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
