Senior Business Analyst (Digital Banking)

Introduction

Backbase is scaling rapidly, and our Canadian head office now boasts over 80 dedicated professionals. We partner with some of Canada's largest banks and other prominent financial institutions. We are looking for a Senior Business Analyst with a deep understanding of financial services and extensive experience working within Product & Engineering teams. In this pivotal role, you will become a Backbase product expert, continuously collaborating with customers, product owners, architects, and development teams to create and maintain functional models. You will effectively communicate product requirements, ensuring team alignment, and serve as the go-to person for product-related inquiries. You will also manage the scope of business requirements and clearly define out-of-scope functional requirements, all while fostering self-development, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

• Work in an Agile, highly collaborative environment alongside product owners, enterprise architects, and core Backbase development teams.
• Closely collaborate with stakeholders to understand their needs.
• Define the scope of business requirements within projects and clearly specify out-of-scope functional requirements.
• Work closely with the Product Owner and architects to define and refine requirements.
• Act as an expert on the Backbase product portfolio, including the Backbase Engagement Banking Platform capabilities and roadmap.
• Assist product owners in preparing product backlog items that accurately reflect business needs.
• Produce high-quality functional models such as use cases, user stories, and acceptance criteria in Jira and Confluence.
• Collaborate with the development team to ensure clear understanding of requirements.
• Support customer teams during solution design, estimation, and implementation phases.
• Engage in knowledge sharing and continuous improvement activities (e.g., through Communities of Practice).

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience as a Business Analyst or Consultant with expertise in Digital Banking.
• Expertise in financial services.
• Excellent stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence and align diverse perspectives.
• Outstanding analytical, communication, writing, and presentation skills (in English).
• Agile/Scrum experience.
• Proven expertise in Digital Banking.
• Demonstrated ability to translate business requirements into functional models (use cases, user stories, and acceptance criteria).
• Ability to lead complex workshops to identify requirements across multiple teams.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Finance, Computer Science, or Business Administration.

Nice to Have

• Experience with the Backbase Engagement Banking Platform or other digital banking platforms is highly desirable.
