Introduction

CoW Protocol is building the fairest and most efficient venue for exchanging assets on all EVM-compatible chains. Having achieved $12bn in trade volume and becoming the 4th most popular DEX Aggregator, they are now aiming for the top spot. They are seeking a passionate Senior Backend Engineer to contribute to the next generation of decentralized trading protocols, focusing on technically challenging aspects of off-chain services and developer-facing APIs.

Responsibilities

• Develop new functionality for off-chain services (optimizing transaction execution, scaling order throughput, increasing protocol decentralization) and APIs (price estimation & order placement, real-time blockchain state monitoring, client communication channels).
• Primarily write concurrent backend systems in Rust, while also interacting with Smart Contracts written in Solidity and deepening understanding of auction mechanisms and Decentralized Finance.
• Collaborate closely with researchers and product managers to ship features and devise innovative solutions for complex technological problems.
• Deliver high-quality code from concept to production, including state-of-the-art monitoring for production systems.
• Provide thoughtful and in-depth code reviews for colleagues' contributions to the open-source codebase.

Requirements

• 3+ years of experience in distributed systems engineering, with a preference for Rust (Go, C++, Java, or similar backgrounds are also welcome).
• Excellent computer science, programming, and algorithmic skills.
• Strong commitment to code quality and readability.
• Proactive in providing technical direction for performance improvement, issue prevention, data usage, and codebase refactoring.
• A team player with strong communication skills, eager to share knowledge.
• Ability to collaborate effectively within a remote-first team on a large, open-source codebase.

Nice to Have

• Understanding of the Ethereum blockchain and ecosystem, general finance, and/or game theory and mechanism design.
• Experience with architecting complex software systems.
