Senior Back End Engineer (Payments)

Introduction

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Back End Engineer to join our dynamic team at Mollie. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining scalable and robust back-end systems that power our cutting-edge payment platform. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to understand business requirements, translate them into technical solutions, and ensure the delivery of high-quality software. Your expertise in back-end technologies, distributed systems, and payment processing will be crucial in driving the success of our products and services.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain high-performance, scalable, and secure back-end services using modern programming languages and frameworks (e.g., Go, Java, Python).
• Lead the development of new features and functionalities, ensuring their seamless integration into our existing payment platform.
• Implement and optimize APIs and microservices to support various payment methods, gateways, and financial institutions.
• Collaborate with front-end engineers, product managers, and other stakeholders to define technical requirements and deliver solutions that meet business needs.
• Drive the adoption of best practices in software development, including code reviews, testing, and documentation.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues, ensuring the stability and reliability of our production systems.
• Mentor and guide junior engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and growth.
• Stay up-to-date with emerging trends and technologies in the payment industry, constantly looking for opportunities to innovate and improve our platform.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• 5+ years of experience in back-end development, with a strong focus on building scalable and distributed systems.
• Proficiency in modern programming languages like Golang, Java, or Python. Our stack is primarily Golang, so knowing Go is a big plus.
• Extensive experience with relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL) and NoSQL databases (e.g., Cassandra, Redis).
• Solid understanding of RESTful APIs, microservices architecture, and event-driven systems.
• Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) and containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
• Familiarity with payment industry standards, regulations, and security best practices (e.g., PCI DSS, PSD2).
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
