About the Position

Introduction

We are looking for a Senior Back-end Engineer to join one of our Payments Services teams at Mollie. Payments Services is a central component, powering the Mollie platform by processing millions of transactions daily. You will be instrumental in designing, building, testing, and maintaining high-quality backend services and APIs within an impactful domain.

Responsibilities

Work within our Payments Services domain and contribute to Mollie’s growth and success.
Write clean, well-tested, modular, and maintainable code in PHP 8+, Go, or Python (new services are primarily in Go).
Deliver high-quality software from design and implementation to testing and deployment.
Work with large-scale distributed transactional systems, microservices architectures, event-driven architectures, queues, and asynchronous processing.
Collaborate with your team to understand and analyze business requirements, translating them into well-defined technical solutions.
Actively participate in code reviews, design discussions, and knowledge-sharing sessions to ensure high-quality output and foster continuous learning.
Develop a deep understanding of our business domain to drive technical decisions.
Mentor and guide junior engineers, helping them grow their technical skills.
Contribute to the team's on-call rotation, ensuring the reliability and stability of our systems.

Requirements

5+ years of experience as a Back-end Engineer.
Proven experience working with a production system at scale.
Strong understanding of system design, architecture, and object-oriented programming principles.
Solid experience in at least one of PHP, Go, or Python (new projects in Go).
Experience with relational and/or non-relational databases.
Experience with messaging systems (e.g., Kafka, RabbitMQ, SQS, SNS).
Experience with testing at all levels (unit, integration, end-to-end).
Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
Experience working in a complex, high-transaction, and distributed environment.
Experience with cloud platforms like AWS, GCP, or Azure.
Experience with containerization technologies like Docker and Kubernetes.
Fluency in English in both written and verbal communication.

Nice to Have

Experience in multiple languages including NodeJS, Java, Kotlin, or C#.
