About the Position

Introduction

The mission for a Senior Back-end Engineer specializing in Payments will be crucial in expanding Mollie's core payments infrastructure. This role involves enhancing our platform's scalability, performance, and reliability, ensuring we continue to provide world-class payment services. You will design and implement robust backend solutions, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and mentor junior engineers.

Responsibilities

Designing, developing, and maintaining Mollie’s core payment processing systems.
Ensuring the scalability, reliability, and security of our payment infrastructure.
Collaborating with other engineering teams, product managers, and stakeholders to define and deliver new features.
Participating in code reviews, providing constructive feedback, and mentoring junior engineers.
Troubleshooting and resolving complex technical issues in a timely manner.
Contributing to the overall technical strategy and architecture of our payment platform.
Staying up-to-date with the latest industry trends and technologies.

Requirements

5+ years of experience in backend development, with a focus on payments or financial systems.
Expertise in one or more of these programming languages: PHP, Go, Java, Python.
Strong understanding of distributed systems, microservices architecture, and API design.
Experience with relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL) and NoSQL databases.
Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, GCP, Azure) and containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
Experience with Agile development methodologies.
Fluent in English.
Valid working permit for the Netherlands.

Nice to Have

Experience with blockchain or other distributed ledger technologies.
Familiarity with fraud detection and prevention systems.
Contributions to open-source projects or a strong portfolio of personal projects.
