Senior Back-End Engineer

We’re seeking an experienced Senior Back-End Engineer to join our passionate and driven team. You’ll be at the forefront of designing and implementing the core systems that power Mollie's mission-critical services, ensuring they are robust, scalable, and highly performant. What you'll do:

• Work on complex distributed systems and contribute to the evolution of our high-volume transaction processing platform.
• Design, develop, and maintain robust, scalable, and secure backend services using Scala and Kotlin.
• Collaborate closely with other engineering teams to define APIs, integrations, and best practices.
• Take ownership of the entire software development lifecycle, from concept to deployment and operation.
• Mentor junior engineers, participate in code reviews, and champion best practices in software development.
• Contribute to our technical roadmap and help shape the future of Mollie's platform.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex production issues efficiently and effectively.

What you'll need:

• You have 5+ years of experience in backend development, with a strong focus on building scalable, high-performance, and resilient systems.
• Proficiency in Scala and/or Kotlin is essential. Experience with both is a significant plus.
• Deep understanding of distributed systems, microservices architecture, and message queues (Kafka).
• Hands-on experience with cloud platforms, preferably AWS.
• Familiarity with containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Solid understanding of database systems (SQL, NoSQL).
• Exceptional problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to identifying and addressing technical challenges.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Nice to have:

• Experience with functional programming paradigms.
• A track record of contributing to open-source projects or speaking at conferences.
• FinTech experience.
