Senior Application Engineer

Introduction

We are looking for an experienced software engineer to join our Application Engineering team. This team is focused on building and maintaining a highly available, robust, secure, and developer-friendly Application Platform. The platform provides fundamental building blocks for other teams at Mollie to build and ship their services reliably and efficiently. We are currently tackling our most interesting challenges to date as we are scaling our existing solutions, building our next-gen platform while keeping our customers and developers happy.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain the platform components that power Mollie's services.
• Collaborate with multiple teams across the business to understand their needs and develop solutions that meet them.
• Contribute to the technical vision and roadmap.
• Participate in architectural decision-making processes.
• Mentor junior engineers and share your expertise within the team.
• Drive continuous improvement in our development processes and tools.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues, ensuring the reliability and stability of our platform.

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• 5+ years of experience in software development, with a strong focus on platform or backend engineering.
• Proficiency in Java and/or Kotlin.
• Strong understanding of cloud-native architectures (e.g., Kubernetes, AWS).
• Experience with relational databases and message queues (e.g., Postgres, Kafka).
• Solid understanding of distributed systems, concurrency, and API design.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English to effectively collaborate with various technical and non-technical stakeholders and to present and explain complex technical information clearly.

Nice to Have

• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation (e.g., ArgoCD, Harness).
• Familiarity with monitoring and observability tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, ELK stack).
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code (e.g., Terraform).
