Role Description Backbase is seeking an experienced and passionate Senior Staff AI Applied Software Engineer to join our growing AI team in Hyderabad. In this role, you will be instrumental in bridging the gap between theoretical AI research and practical, scalable applications within our Banking OS Platform. You will design, develop, and deploy AI-powered features across various domains, including Natural Language Processing (NLP), Generative AI, and Machine Learning. Your expertise will be crucial in building robust, performant, and secure AI solutions that enhance our product offerings and provide significant value to our customers. What You’ll Be Doing

• Design and develop enterprise-grade AI-powered features and services within the Backbase Banking OS Platform.
• Lead the integration of advanced NLP, Generative AI, and Machine Learning models into our existing microservices architecture.
• Collaborate closely with AI/ML researchers, product managers, and other engineering teams to translate complex AI models into deployable and maintainable software solutions.
• Implement best practices for MLOps, including model versioning, monitoring, and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines.
• Optimise AI models and associated infrastructure for performance, scalability, and cost-effectiveness.
• Ensure the security, privacy, and compliance of AI systems in accordance with industry standards and regulations.
• Participate in code reviews, technical discussions, and contribute to the overall architectural evolution of our AI platform.
• Mentor and guide junior engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous learning.
• Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in AI/ML technologies and proactively identify opportunities for innovation within Backbase.

Who You Are

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, or a related field.
• Minimum of 8+ years of professional experience in software development, with at least 4 years focused on applied AI/ML engineering.
• Proven track record of successfully designing, developing, and deploying AI-powered applications in a production environment.
• Strong proficiency in programming languages such as Java (Spring Boot), Scala, or Python.
• Expertise in designing and implementing microservices architectures and RESTful APIs.
• Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and containerisation technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Solid understanding of relational and NoSQL databases.
• In-depth knowledge of NLP techniques, Generative AI models (e.g., LLMs, Transformers), and traditional Machine Learning algorithms.
• Experience with MLOps tools and practices (e.g., MLflow, Kubeflow, Data Version Control).
• Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, agile environment.

Added advantage

• Experience with financial services or banking domain.
• Familiarity with stream processing technologies (e.g., Apache Kafka).
