About the Position
Introduction
The Safety Systems team at OpenAI is dedicated to upholding the safety, robustness, and reliability of AI models as they are deployed in real-world scenarios. The Health AI team, in particular, focuses on expanding access to high-quality medical information by integrating AI safety research with healthcare applications. This role aims to develop trustworthy AI models that can support medical professionals and improve patient outcomes.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement practical and scalable methods to enhance the safety and reliability of AI models, including techniques like Reinforcement Learning from Human Feedback (RLHF), automated red teaming, and scalable oversight.
- Evaluate these methods using health-related data to ensure models deliver accurate, reliable, and trustworthy information.
- Develop reusable libraries for applying general alignment techniques to AI models.
- Proactively assess the safety of models and systems, identifying potential risks.
- Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to integrate new methods into core model training and deploy safety improvements in OpenAI's products.
Requirements
- Passionate about OpenAI’s mission to ensure universally beneficial AGI and aligned with OpenAI’s charter.
- Strong interest in AI safety and a desire to improve global health outcomes.
- 4+ years of experience in deep learning research and Large Language Models (LLMs), with a focus on practical alignment topics such as RLHF, automated red teaming, and scalable oversight.
- Ph.D. or an equivalent degree in computer science, AI, machine learning, or a related field.
- Goal-oriented approach, willing to undertake high-value but potentially unglamorous work.
- Proven experience in making practical model improvements for AI model deployment.
- Ability to own problems end-to-end and acquire necessary knowledge to complete tasks.
- A collaborative team player who thrives in cooperative work environments.
