    About the Position

    Introduction

    OpenAI's Safety Systems team is dedicated to ensuring the safety, robustness, and reliability of AI models for real-world deployment. The Health AI team, aligned with OpenAI's charter, focuses on providing universal access to high-quality medical information by developing trustworthy AI models that assist medical professionals and improve patient outcomes.

    Responsibilities

    • Design and implement practical and scalable methods to enhance the safety and reliability of AI models, including techniques like RLHF, automated red teaming, and scalable oversight.
    • Evaluate developed methods using health-related data to ensure models provide accurate, reliable, and trustworthy information.
    • Develop reusable libraries for applying general alignment techniques to AI models.
    • Proactively assess the safety of models and systems, identifying and mitigating potential risks.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to integrate safety improvements into core model training and deploy them in OpenAI's products.

    Requirements

    • Passion for OpenAI’s mission of ensuring AGI is universally beneficial and alignment with OpenAI’s charter.
    • Strong interest in AI safety and improving global health outcomes.
    • 4+ years of experience in deep learning research and Large Language Models (LLMs), with a focus on practical alignment topics such as RLHF, automated red teaming, and scalable oversight.
    • Ph.D. or equivalent degree in computer science, AI, machine learning, or a related field.
    • Goal-oriented approach, willing to undertake necessary high-value tasks even if unglamorous.
    • Experience in making practical model improvements for AI model deployment.
    • Ability to take ownership of problems end-to-end and acquire new knowledge as needed.
    • A team player who thrives in collaborative environments.

    Nice to Have

    • Experience in health-related AI research or deployments.
