Principal Ruby on Rails Software Engineer

Introduction

Figment is seeking a Principal Ruby on Rails Software Engineer to join their remote-first, globally distributed team.

Responsibilities

• Take full technical accountability for products and processes.
• Set the technical specification design, roadmap, and implementation for products.
• Collaborate closely with Product Managers to negotiate plans, design solutions, and set expectations.
• Work with the Security team to deliver secure software solutions.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams on all aspects of product development.
• Ensure efficient and current team onboarding processes.
• Lead and refine the team’s software development processes.
• Communicate broad initiatives and vision to Engineering Leadership and Product.
• Demonstrate technical expertise across multiple domains and mentor other team members, especially junior Rails developers.
• Contribute code as a Principal level Individual Contributor, setting best practices and standards.
• Lead by example in implementation and execution.
• Act as a force multiplier for the team's work.
• Drive quality implementation across products.

Requirements

• Strong Principal engineer level individual contributor experience.
• Proficiency in making technical decisions, explaining them, and achieving team buy-in.
• Strong Rails background and a track record of successful Rails projects.
• Consider yourself a full-stack developer with deep knowledge in certain specialties.
• Ability to routinely architect solutions for significant problems, considering maintenance, scalability, and security.
• Experience interacting with senior management to explain broader initiatives.
• Owned complete features and systems end-to-end (conception, breakdown, implementation, deployment).
• Able to quickly learn new technologies and enjoy learning new things.
• Pragmatic outlook, focusing on impactful changes.
• Strive for simplicity and maintainability.
• Located within the North American PST ↔ EST time zones, or willing to ensure a minimum 3-hour overlap with PST (9 am - 5 pm PST).
• Appreciation for good written communication and fluent in both written and spoken English.

• Some familiarity with blockchain technology (not a requirement).
