Introduction

Tangram Vision is seeking a Perception Algorithm Engineer with real-world perception experience in robotics, autonomous vehicles, or industrial applications. The ideal candidate has a proven track record of developing, iterating on, and improving perception systems once deployed, often under market pressure, leading to innovative solutions for complex sensor problems.

Responsibilities

• Develop performant perception algorithms for both cloud and low-powered host machines.
• Develop algorithms to calibrate various combinations of sensors.
• Develop unit and integration tests for all production-critical code.
• Participate in and contribute to intensive research-backed product proposals.
• Improve user experience for user-facing perception products through testing and customer discussion.
• Write and contribute to internal and user-facing product documentation.
• Contribute relevant, technical content to the Tangram Vision blog for a robotics and sensor-savvy audience.
• Be open to networking/speaker opportunities on behalf of the company, including presentations at local meetups and internal/external communications on progress and projects.
• Expect to travel at least 4 weeks out of the year for company retreats, conferences, and trade shows.
• Craft and maintain a personal "User Manual" to facilitate understanding of your working style and collaboration.
• Communicate and check-in with team members, ensuring proposals, documentation, and prototypes are open, malleable, and collaborative, while preserving the benefits of asynchronous work.
• Contribute to smooth operations by submitting PTO requests and observing travel budgets.

Requirements

• Proven ability to work beyond the limits of open-source perception frameworks.
• Enthusiasm for performant systems languages, specifically Rust, or eagerness to learn Rust in a real-world setting.
• Ability to evaluate technology options and tradeoffs, making confident decisions.
• Interest in contributing to product direction, planning, roadmaps, and postmortems.
• Willingness to voice opinions and advocate for improved calibration procedures, or a history of developing such improvements.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, capable of explaining complex ideas without technical jargon.
• Exceptional time management, including the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects.
• A strong desire to learn and apply new knowledge from textbooks and/or research papers.
• Strong teamwork skills, enjoying positive relationships with colleagues and stakeholders and helping others.
• Commitment to inclusivity and collaboration with diverse backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives.

Must-Have Technical Qualifications (2+ years of professional experience or equivalent):

• Experience with large code architectures written in a performant systems language (Rust preferred).
• Calibration procedures in perception, beyond Zhang’s method.
• Implementing common multi-view geometry or photogrammetry algorithms.
• Non-linear optimization and large matrix mathematics.
• Demonstrated experience with common programming optimization strategies.
• Demonstrated experience with common sensor datatypes (e.g., image formats, point clouds, gyroscopic data).
• Comfortable working on Linux and using the command-line.
• Proficiency with Git, including informative commit messages and a clean history.
