Responsibilities

• Manage and optimize the complete network infrastructure, including Fortinet firewalls, core switches, load balancers, and IP plans.
• Analyze and improve protocols such as BGP, VRP, OSPF, and GRE tunnels.
• Guide internet provider migrations and implement temporary IP structures to support a stable EVPN environment.
• Lead optimizations in core switching, such as standardizing Spanning Tree protocols.
• Collaborate with network suppliers, including Vodafone, and other external partners.
• Contribute to the stability and future-proofing of the hybrid IT environment, where Azure, VMware, and on-premise infrastructures converge.
• Support the management and optimization of Wi-Fi networks.
• Proactively advise on network improvements and contribute to the optimization of processes and infrastructure within an organization that must be operational 24/7.

Requirements

• In-depth knowledge of networking, routing & switching.
• Knowledge of Fortinet firewalls (or willingness to learn).
• Experience with various switching platforms (HP, Juniper, etc.).
• Knowledge of protocols such as BGP, OSPF, VRP, GRE.
• Familiarity with Wi-Fi networks is a plus.
• Experience with migration projects and IP plan management.
• You possess professional network certifications such as AZ-700.
• Proactive, critical, and solution-oriented attitude.
• Dutch language skills preferred (working knowledge required for this role based in the Netherlands).

• Gross monthly salary up to €5,356 based on 36 hours per week.

About Company

As a Senior Network Administrator, you will work within an organization where security is paramount. This government agency monitors the security of more than 22 municipalities in Gelderland and provides a crucial service that must be operational and accessible 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

In this versatile and challenging role, you, along with a team of nine IT colleagues, are responsible for maintaining and improving the IT environment. You are the one who not only manages the network infrastructure but also critically reviews it and implements improvements. From working on core switches to managing and optimizing Fortinet firewalls, you ensure that everything remains stable and scalable.

You delve into load balancers, streamline IP plans, and ensure that protocols such as BGP, VRP, OSPF, and GRE tunnels run flawlessly. You are also a driving force in core switching, ensuring uniformity in Spanning Tree protocols, among others, and maximizing infrastructure performance. You work closely with the network provider and other partners. Furthermore, you work on important projects such as IP plan migrations, relocation projects (3-4 per year), and supporting the hybrid Azure and VMware environment. Accurate network configuration and IP planning are crucial to ensure continuity and security.
