Introduction

Natera is seeking a skilled, self-motivated Engineering Manager to lead a global software development team in the Oncology domain within a fast-growing biotech company. This team will support cutting-edge research focused on revolutionary cancer testing methods. This role involves developing and leading a distributed engineering team, project management, and professional communication responsibilities for high-impact, high-visibility products.

Responsibilities

Lead

• Provide technical leadership for US-based and international software development engineers to ensure on-time, on-budget development of high-quality software.
• Lead technical design, architecture, and implementation strategy development.
• Establish best engineering practices.

Manage

• Manage multiple ongoing projects.
• Identify project objectives, scope of software deliverables, external dependencies, resources, risks, and framework for project activities.
• Facilitate collaboration and resolve issues, evaluate project performance, bring projects to delivery, and act on lessons learned.
• Lead standups and other Agile ceremonies.

Nurture

• Guide the career development of team members, nurturing their technical and interpersonal skills.
• Provide individual performance feedback focused on recognizing achievements and opportunities for growth.
• Conduct 1:1s, performance evaluations, and more.

Collaborate

• Build and maintain strong ongoing working relationships with stakeholders, focusing on effective communication channels.
• Oversee collaboration among cross-functional development teams, software quality engineers, and product managers.

Effect Change

• Provide feedback to management and initiate change to optimize software development processes with a focus on quality, innovation, and efficient product delivery.

Requirements

• BS or MS degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience.
• 2+ years of proven track record building and managing high-performance engineering teams.
• 8+ years of experience in software development using Java or similar languages.
• Experience in and aptitude for leading remote teams.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Passion for people management and mentorship.

• Experience in biotech or another regulated industry.
• Proven record of managing highly effective engineering teams.
• Willingness and ability to manage global teams across multiple time zones.
