Junior ICT Architect

The Directorate of Information Provision and Digital Innovation (IDI) is a key department within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, focusing on enhancing digital capabilities and ensuring the security and efficiency of ICT systems.

Introduction

Are you ready to take your first steps in ICT architecture while contributing to the digital resilience of the Netherlands? We are looking for a Junior ICT Architect to join our team, focusing on designing a representative test environment and providing practical support to the lead architect within the 'Quantum Veilig' program.

Responsibilities

As a Junior ICT Architect, you will work under the guidance of a lead architect to:

• Analyze the existing ICT environment and translate it into requirements for a test environment.
• (Partially) design a technical and functional test environment, including infrastructure, integrations, data, applications, authorizations, and management agreements.
• Develop architectural and design documentation, such as views, diagrams, design notes, principles, risks, and dependencies.
• Gather information from development teams, testers, administrators, security specialists, and project managers.
• Ensure consistency between the test, acceptance, and production environments.
• Document architectural decisions and open design questions.
• Provide insight into technical dependencies, preconditions, and bottlenecks.
• Offer practical support within the broader program, such as preparing sessions, maintaining action lists, writing reports, and structuring design documentation.
• Identify and report risks or ambiguities to the lead architect.
• Foster strong collaboration between architecture, development, testing, administration, and program management.

Requirements

• MBO / HBO (vocational/higher professional education) working and thinking level.
• Eager to learn.
• Structured and accurate in documentation.
• Communicatively skilled, also towards non-technical stakeholders.
• Practically oriented and willing to take on supporting tasks.
• Comfortable working under the guidance of a senior or lead architect.
• Collaboration-oriented and service-minded.
• Reliable in following up on actions and agreements.
• Dutch language skills preferred (working knowledge required for this role based in the Netherlands).

Nice to Have

• Basic knowledge of ICT architecture, solution design, or technical design.
• Understanding of test, acceptance, and production environments.
• Knowledge of infrastructure components such as networks, servers, cloud environments, databases, identity & access management, and integrations/APIs.
• Experience with creating or reading architectural diagrams, for example in ArchiMate, UML, BPMN, Visio, Miro, Draw.io, or similar tools.
• Affinity with security, networks, privacy, logging, monitoring, and manageability.
• Understanding of software development, CI/CD, DevOps, or agile methodologies.
• Experience with documenting, structuring, and analyzing technical information.
• Some experience within projects or programs in a complex ICT environment.
