About the Position

Introduction

Are you an experienced Java Developer who thrives on modernization, DevOps teams, and complex applications? Our client, a large Dutch government organization, is seeking a Java Developer to play a key role in the continuous development and innovation of large-scale Java systems.

Responsibilities

As a Senior Java Developer, you will work on modernizing existing Java applications and setting up new components within a modern web architecture. You will actively participate in redesigning and optimizing frontend and backend components, building new APIs, and providing input on technical design choices. You will work in DevOps teams to build a robust, scalable, and future-proof infrastructure that aligns with government standards.

You will develop modern frontends (e.g., Angular) that connect to a Java-based backend and REST services, and contribute to performance, security, and maintainability. You will collaborate closely with other developers, test automation specialists, administrators, and product owners, taking initiative to improve codebase, CI/CD pipelines, and development processes.

In this role, you will be both hands-on and advisory: you will contribute to architectural discussions, make well-reasoned choices, and deliver high-quality technical solutions within a complex, regulated environment.

Requirements

Strong experience with Java (EE or modern variants).
Extensive experience with modern frontend development (e.g., Angular or comparable frameworks).
Experience with REST APIs, microservices, and integrations.
Familiarity with CI/CD, containers, and DevOps principles.
Experience within complex enterprise environments.
Good communication skills and persuasiveness.
Strong analytical skills and ability to clearly substantiate design choices.
Dutch language skills preferred (working knowledge required for this role based in the Netherlands).

Nice to Have:

Experience within the Dutch government or similar regulated environments.
Experience with performance engineering or high-load environments.
Knowledge of container platforms (Docker/Kubernetes).
Experience with automated testing.
