Introduction

Axle is seeking a visionary Technical Lead to manage their IT operations, crucial for supporting top-tier bioscience research. This role transcends traditional sysadmin duties, requiring an architect who can build resilient, secure, and cutting-edge high-performance environments. The ideal candidate will lead an engineering team, blending traditional reliability with modern automation techniques.

Responsibilities

This position is designed for an automation-first developer utilizing 'Vibe Coding'—AI-assisted development—to automate tasks and generate scripts and infrastructure-as-code. Key responsibilities include:

• AI/ML Infrastructure: Scale GPU-enabled environments and optimize performance for data-intensive research.
• Cloud & Hybrid Orchestration: Manage complex deployments across AWS, GCP, and Azure using Terraform and Ansible.
• Modern Development: Implement CI/CD pipelines and vulnerability remediation through natural language prompting and AI tools.
• Shape standards for system hardening and incident response across Linux and Windows environments.
• Integrate AI/ML infrastructure management with NIST-compliant security frameworks.
• Innovate federal-scale research platform construction and maintenance.
• Mentor the next generation of systems engineers.

Requirements

• 10+ years of experience in IT Operations or a similar technical role.
• Proven leadership experience managing technical teams.
• Expertise in AI/ML infrastructure, including GPU management.
• Strong background in cloud and hybrid orchestration with AWS, GCP, and Azure.
• Proficiency with Terraform and Ansible.
• Experience with CI/CD pipeline implementation.
• Knowledge of system hardening and incident response.
• Familiarity with both Linux and Windows environments.
• Understanding of NIST-compliant security frameworks.
• Experience with AI-assisted development (Vibe Coding) is a strong plus.

• Experience in the bioscience or related research fields.
