About the Position

Introduction

AlemX is a technology company at the forefront of fintech, payment infrastructure, and the creator economy. With an established core team, provisional patents filed, and strategic industry partnerships, we are preparing for a public launch and Seed Round. We are incorporated as a Delaware C-Corp with an Estonian entity, headquartered in Baku, and our team is distributed globally.

We are seeking our first Head of Engineering, an experienced and execution-focused leader to fully own and execute AlemX's technical strategy. You will transform our existing architecture and team into an efficient, high-shipping machine, ensuring the quality, security, and delivery velocity required for a fintech product handling real financial flows.

Responsibilities

Engineering Delivery

Full ownership of engineering roadmap and sprints: planning, prioritization, and delivery.
Lead the current engineering team and scale it to 8–12 engineers within 12 months.
Establish robust engineering processes including code review, CI/CD, incident response, and on-call rotations.
Provide weekly engineering reports to the CEO and board.

Security & Compliance

Address and resolve critical findings from recent technical audits.
Operational ownership of the SOC 2 Type I process in collaboration with the Compliance Lead.
Implement and maintain security hygiene practices: secrets management, access control, and dependency audits.

Hiring & Team Development

Lead screening, hiring, and onboarding of new engineers.
Manage performance, conduct 1-on-1s, and foster career development for the engineering team.
Shape and cultivate an engineering culture emphasizing accountability, ownership, and code quality.

Vendor & Partnerships

Provide technical stewardship for relationships with infrastructure and payment partners.
Conduct due diligence on potential new technical partners.

Communication

Represent engineering in investor discussions.
Ensure alignment with product, compliance, marketing, and other functional teams.

Requirements

Must-Have

8+ years of engineering experience, including 3+ years in a management role (Engineering Manager / Head of Engineering / VP).
Proven experience leading teams of 5–15 engineers within a product company.
Demonstrated shipping experience in fintech, payments, or a similarly regulated environment.
Strong operational discipline: expertise in processes, metrics, and delivery predictability.
Readiness to thrive in an early-stage startup environment: hands-on, comfortable with multiple context switches, and adaptable to a fast pace.
Fluent in written and spoken English.

Nice-to-Have

Experience successfully navigating SOC 2, PCI DSS, or similar audits.
Familiarity with mobile-first product development, particularly with React Native.
Experience managing distributed or remote teams across different time zones.
