Forward Deployed Engineer

Introduction

As a Forward Deployed Engineer on the Innovation team at Huntress, you will play a crucial role in transforming company operations. You will identify high-leverage opportunities, build and validate solutions, drive their adoption, and seamlessly transition them to permanent owners, focusing on tangible business outcomes rather than product backlogs.

Responsibilities

• Identify, pitch, and execute innovation projects that deliver measurable business impact, from concept through working prototype to transition.
• Embed with various teams (engineering, sales, security operations, support) to understand workflows, diagnose bottlenecks, and develop solutions that reduce toil and increase speed.
• Design and build full-stack solutions within production codebases, ensuring integration with existing infrastructure and data pipelines.
• Map complex systems end-to-end, understanding data flow, failure points, and second-order effects before building.
• Create playbooks, self-service documentation, and internal demos to facilitate successful adoption of new workflows at scale.
• Transition successful projects to their permanent owners with comprehensive context and documentation for long-term maintenance.
• Gather direct feedback from customers, partners, and internal stakeholders to inform future development.
• Rapidly prototype, validate with real users, and be willing to discontinue projects that are not yielding desired results.

Requirements

• Ownership and Agency: Ability to lead efforts independently as the single responsible person.
• Systems-First Thinking: Instantly maps systems (actors, flows, dependencies, feedback loops, failure modes) for new problems, focusing on systemic interventions rather than isolated features.
• Entrepreneurial Experience: Founded or led a business requiring product development, customer acquisition, sales, support, and resource-constrained decision-making.
• Outcome-Oriented: Prioritizes business outcomes over specific tools, understanding where AI or traditional automation provides the most value.
• Strong Full-Stack Engineering Experience: Proficient in dropping into unfamiliar codebases, understanding patterns, and shipping production-quality code. Ruby on Rails highly preferred; Golang is a bonus.
• Incremental Delivery and Clean Transitions: Naturally decomposes work, demonstrates incremental value, and hands off projects with sufficient context for new owners.
• Cross-Audience Communication: Ability to communicate technical details effectively to engineers, demonstrate prototypes to sales leaders, and pitch innovation projects to executives by reframing information.
• Operational Reliability: Builds systems with built-in feedback loops, health checks, and validation.
• Thriving in Ambiguity: Proactively identifies and pursues high-leverage solutions without needing a predefined backlog or sprint plan.
• Resilience to Failure: Willingness to push boundaries and accept that some audacious efforts may fail in the pursuit of innovation.

Nice to Have

• Experience building internal tools or developer productivity tooling.
• Track record of driving AI/automation adoption in non-engineering audiences.
• Experience in cybersecurity, MSP/MSSP operations, or security tooling.
• Familiarity with detection engineering, SIEM concepts, or identity security.
