Engineering Manager - PHP/AI

Millions of visitors a month, four platforms across three countries, and an engineering team that treats AI agents as part of the daily workflow rather than an experiment. This leading digital player in the heart of Rotterdam is looking for an Engineering Manager who will provide direction to engineers, tech leads, and product owners. This role emphasizes full ownership of execution from roadmap to release, without micromanagement.

Responsibilities

• Manage and coach 5 PHP developers and a Tech Lead.
• Guide product development in collaboration with Product Owners and UX/UI Designers.
• Take responsibility for the entire product lifecycle, from concept to implementation and monitoring.
• Contribute hands-on to the technical architecture and codebase of the platforms.
• Implement new AI tools and data pipelines in an AWS environment.
• Collaborate with other Engineering Managers and the CTO to define and implement the overall technical strategy.

Requirements

• Minimum of 5 years of experience as a PHP Developer, including 2 years in a leadership role.
• Proven experience in managing teams, including performance reviews and personal development plans.
• In-depth knowledge of PHP and related frameworks (Symfony, Laravel, etc.).
• Experience with AWS (EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, etc.) and Docker.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automated testing.
• Excellent communication skills in both Dutch and English.
• Dutch language skills preferred (working knowledge required for this role based in the Netherlands).

Nice to Have

• Knowledge of front-end technologies (React, Vue.js, Angular).
