At Front, the search stack powers intelligent features and algorithms to deliver relevant results, enhancing product navigation and user experience. We are seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead Front's core search team in Paris. This role involves managing a senior team, driving ambitious roadmaps, contributing to technical design, scaling the team through hiring and coaching, and optimizing team efficiency. It's a highly collaborative position, working closely with product managers, analysts, designers, researchers, and engineering managers across Paris and San Francisco.

Responsibilities

• Partner cross-functionally with Product and Design to innovate and execute product initiatives.
• Utilize search expertise to translate ideas into features and enhance the search experience for thousands of customers.
• Ensure architectural design, implementation, and quality of work produced by the teams are exceptional.
• Grow engineering teams by coaching developing engineers and attracting top talent.
• Contribute to engineering-wide initiatives as a member of Front's engineering management team.

Requirements

• Proven track record of effectively recruiting, mentoring, and retaining top talent.
• 2+ years of industry experience leading teams that build highly available, large-scale distributed search systems at an internet service.
• Strong history of delivering complex projects with high levels of ambiguity.
• A strong product mindset and ability to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced, collaborative, low-ego, and high-growth environment.
• Excellent clear, structured thinking and communication skills.
• Industry experience building fast, reliable, real-time web-based applications.
• Knowledgeable about modern web technologies (e.g., React, ES6, Babel, Electron) and eager to learn new ones.

Nice to Have

• Experience with Elasticsearch clusters handling significant data volumes (e.g., 120 TB production data, 650M search queries/day, 465M indexing queries/day).
