About the Position
Introduction
Common Room is seeking a Data Analyst / Engineer to transform billions of daily events and user actions into clear, actionable insights. In this role, you will collaborate with Product, GTM, and Leadership teams to define metrics, build datasets, and create dashboards that drive decision-making. You will be instrumental in scaling data systems and ensuring high data quality and accessibility. Responsibilities
- Transform billions of daily events and user actions into clear, actionable insights for internal teams and customers.
- Partner closely with Product, GTM, and Leadership stakeholders to understand their needs, define key metrics, and build robust datasets and dashboards.
- Develop and maintain systems for transforming data to provide customers with insights into Common Room's business impact and to generate internal product and business insights.
- Scale data systems to keep up with growth, leveraging experience in ETL pipelines, data warehouses, and modern analytics tooling (e.g., dbt).
- Design and maintain clean, scalable data models that serve as the foundation for analytics and reporting.
- Collaborate effectively with experienced engineers (application/front-end) and non-technical stakeholders.
- Build and maintain dashboards and reporting layers (e.g., Looker, Hex, Mode) to enable self-serve analytics across the company.
- Exercise good judgment on trade-offs and tool selection, preferring supported, stable technologies over trendy/fashionable tech.
- Use customer problems as input for system design, creating simple and elegant solutions.
- Consider observability, SLA, and scalability implications while avoiding premature optimization.
- Identify and participate in important company-building initiatives for a fast-growing startup.
- Care deeply about data quality, metric definitions, and making data accessible to the broader team.
- Bring an authentic self to work and engage in candid and respectful feedback.

Requirements
- 5+ years of experience with a minimum of 2 years in ETL pipelines and data warehouses.
- Proficiency with AWS, Postgres, and Node.js.
- Experience with modern data tooling such as dbt, Snowflake, and BI tools (Looker, Hex, Mode, or similar).
- Ability to operate independently while seeking support when needed.
- Excitement for and capability of owning large backend projects.
- Strong collaboration skills with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Nice to Have
- Experience with TypeScript.
- Familiarity with TypeGraphQL for API endpoints.
- Knowledge of Kafka for event processing.
- Experience with Apollo/Express for web servers.
- Exposure to ClickHouse for databases.
- React for front-end experience.
