About the Position

Introduction

Paxos is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Controller to lead their accounting function. This role is pivotal in ensuring the integrity of financial records and building the accounting infrastructure to support a rapidly scaling, regulated financial services business. Reporting directly to the CFO, you will be instrumental in navigating complex financial landscapes and contributing to the company's mission to revolutionize global finance through blockchain technology.

Responsibilities

Own the Close and Financial Statements: Drive the end-to-end monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes for all Paxos entities, ensuring timely and accurate financials in accordance with US GAAP and local reporting requirements.
Set and Defend Accounting Policy: Lead technical accounting research for new products, transactions, and structures. Conclude, document positions, and translate complex findings into clear policies, processes, and system requirements. Stay abreast of regulatory developments from FASB, SEC, and OCC.
Own Financial Audit and Controls: Serve as the primary contact for external auditors. Design, implement, and maintain a robust internal controls framework suitable for an OCC-regulated trust company, supporting regulatory examinations and inquiries.
Financial Architecture Partner: Collaborate with Product and Engineering teams during the design phase of new offerings to ensure accounting treatment is understood, platforms can support it, and data flows enable accurate and timely financial reporting.
Shape Quote-to-Cash and Revenue Recognition: Partner with commercial and legal teams to design scalable quote-to-cash processes and ensure commercial contracts support desired revenue recognition outcomes.
Build the Team and Infrastructure: Manage and develop a team of accounting professionals, proactively hiring to meet future needs. Drive automation and process improvements to ensure close, reconciliation, and reporting functions scale efficiently with business growth.

Requirements

CPA designation is required.
10+ years of progressive accounting experience, with a preference for experience in fast-scaling or complex, multi-entity environments.
Deep US GAAP technical accounting knowledge with a proven ability to research, conclude, and document complex issues.
Demonstrated ability to partner directly with Product and Engineering teams on financial system design, fund flow architecture, or platform build-outs, as well as with Go-to-Market teams on quote-to-cash and revenue recognition.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of bridging technical and financial concepts across different departments (e.g., engineers, auditors, regulators).
Comfortable operating in a fast-paced environment, making decisions with incomplete information, and adapting views as new facts emerge.
Proven ability to leverage AI tools to enhance process efficiency, automate reconciliations, financial close tasks, and reporting workflows.

Nice to Have

Experience within the fintech, crypto-native, or regulated financial services sector (e.g., banking, payments, broker-dealer, trust company).
