Compliance Director - Latin America

Introduction

Bitso is seeking a highly experienced and purpose-driven Compliance Director to lead and drive compliance duties and strategies in Brazil. This role is critical in ensuring that the company's operations and business goals function in a legal and ethical manner, adhering to all regulatory requirements set forth by the Brazilian Central Bank and other relevant authorities.

Responsibilities

• Enhance and manage the organization's compliance and AML/TF programs to ensure operations align with federal laws and applicable regulations.
• Assess and take full ownership of the Brazilian Compliance team's needs, tasks, and define the area's strategy, considering current activities and new projects.
• Verify that the company complies with procedures, information, and documentation required by competent authorities.
• Ensure the company adheres to orders for securing or unblocking accounts or resources related to AML/TF matters.
• Develop and review company policies.
• Coordinate with regulators for audits and independent auditors.
• Plan, implement, and oversee risk-related programs.
• Coordinate and oversee the internal audit function to identify possible weaknesses or risks.
• Create and coordinate proper reporting channels for compliance issues.
• Develop company compliance communications.
• Coordinate and schedule required compliance training for employees.
• Resolve employee concerns about compliance.
• Determine and track compliance metrics.
• Remain up-to-date on relevant laws, inform impacted teams to react accordingly, and update policies.
• Perform compliance audits to determine protocol adherence and identify improvements.
• Analyze digital asset transfers from a compliance and AML/CTF perspective.
• Monitor customer transaction activities.
• Coordinate follow-up activities for Operations and institutional-level investigations.
• Verify that corresponding alerts have been analyzed, investigations documented, and recorded.
• Participate in reviews of key clients and support key projects.
• Inform the Committee of transactions with high-risk characteristics.
• Support the creation and submission of AML reports.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in law, finance, business management, or a related field.
• 7-10 years of proven experience in a compliance officer and/or manager role.
• Experience as a Compliance Officer/Manager in the financial services industry, preferably within a Payment Institution.
• In-depth knowledge of Brazilian Central Bank regulations and global compliance requirements for Payment Institutions.
• Experience in risk management and internal controls.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Hands-on approach and adaptability.
• Highly analytical with strong attention to detail.
• Familiarity with industry practices and professional standards.
• High integrity and professional ethics.
• Professional Compliance certification.
• Fluent in English and Portuguese. Spanish is a plus.

Nice to Have

• Experience working in the crypto industry.
• Experience with the functions and responsibilities of a Director registered within the Central Bank of Brazil.
• Additional AML certification.
• Good understanding of blockchain technology.
