Business Analyst – FEC Screening Systems (Sanction Detection)

Introduction

Step into the crucial world of Know Your Customer (KYC) and combating Financial Economic Crime (FEC) at banks and financial institutions. Sopra Steria is at the forefront of protecting the financial system with advanced, data-driven Sanction Screening technologies. This process detects transactions involving individuals or organizations that may pose risks related to sanctions, terrorism financing, or money laundering.

Responsibilities

As a Business Analyst, you will play a key role in shaping, testing, and aligning our sanction screening systems and models with customer policies, risk standards, and compliance procedures. You will be responsible for the full lifecycle of your features – from defining requirements and guiding implementation to monitoring performance and reporting results. You are both a strategic thinker and a hands-on analyst, capable of translating complex business needs into clear and actionable tasks for your squad.

Your responsibilities/tasks include:

• Specifying business and technical requirements through interviews, workshops, demos, and collaboration.
• Defining clear and testable acceptance criteria for features and epics.
• Prioritizing and distinguishing between global 'must-haves' and 'nice-to-haves' to ensure the integrity of global standards.
• Analyzing and evaluating sanction screening algorithms, rules, and thresholds, and recommending improvements.
• Collaborating closely with Product Owners to align backlog refinement and squad priorities.
• Clearly communicating technical concepts and solutions to international stakeholders.
• Ensuring all solutions comply with internal policies, standards, and regulations.
• Performing data analysis and mapping; proposing solutions for data quality issues.
• Fostering a feedback culture and maintaining a proactive, solution-oriented attitude.

• Education: Completed HBO (higher vocational education) or WO (university education).
• Experience: Minimum of 2.5 years of relevant work experience as a Business Analyst, preferably in the financial sector.
• Domain Knowledge: Experience with Sanction Screening or broader FEC domains is highly desirable (but not a must).
• Technical Skills: Familiarity with risk and compliance architecture, including tools such as Inform RiskShield, Python, and Databricks.
• Data Analysis: Affinity with data analysis; able to perform data lineage analyses, quality assessments, and privacy reviews.
• Compliance: Experience with model testing, risk standards, and reporting to regulators.
• Collaboration: Ability to collaborate with various stakeholders such as Compliance, IT, and Business Operations.
• IT Landscape: Strong functional understanding of enterprise IT landscapes.
• Methodologies: Experience with Agile, Scrum, DevOps, Lean, or SAFe methodologies.

Personal Skills:

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Able to work both strategically and in detail.
• Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• High level of documentation and reporting skills – accurate, well-substantiated, and audit-ready.
• Independent and organized, with the ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously.
• Dutch language skills preferred (working knowledge required for this role based in the Netherlands).

• A permanent contract and a salary between €3,000 and €6,000 gross per month (based on a 40-hour work week). The exact salary depends on your experience and the role.
