About the Position

Introduction

Māia is an insurtech startup in Rotterdam that is rebuilding the B2B insurance market. While business insurance typically takes weeks or months, Māia makes it possible within minutes by completely redesigning and automating processes. Māia originated from Schouten Zekerheid, an insurance broker with over 70 years of experience. By combining modern low-code technology with existing policy administration and domain knowledge, the focus is entirely on scalability, innovation, and better service. The team consists of approximately 15 people and works in an informal, content-driven environment with a lot of freedom and responsibility.

Responsibilities

As an Application Engineer, you will be part of a multidisciplinary team and act as the link between business and IT. You will develop functionalities within our low-code platform (Microsoft Power Platform) to meet the daily needs of the business. You will be directly involved in designing, developing, and implementing insurance products and processes within Māia. Additionally, you will make a significant contribution to continuously improving, scaling, and optimizing our platform.

You will work closely with product owners and business analysts to translate functional requirements into technical solutions. You will also collaborate with other engineers to build and maintain robust and scalable applications, always keeping an eye on performance, scalability, security, and maintenance.

Develop functionalities and applications based on the Microsoft Power Platform (Power Apps, Power Automate, Dataverse).
Draft and execute test plans to ensure the quality and reliability of solutions.
Document technical specifications, designs, and implementations.
Actively contribute ideas and proactively advise on the architecture and further development of the Low-code platform.
Serve as a point of contact and expert for internal users of the platform.
Monitor the performance, scalability, and security of applications and provide recommendations for improvement.

Requirements

Minimum HBO (higher vocational education) work and thinking level.
Minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience building applications in a low-code platform such as Microsoft Power Platform (Power Apps, Power Automate, Dataverse), Mendix, Salesforce, Outsystems, Thinkwise, etc.
Experience integrating low-code applications with other systems and APIs.
Knowledge of databases and data modeling.
In-depth knowledge of Azure Cloud services, such as Azure Functions, Logic Apps, and Azure API Management.
Strong conceptual skills, able to quickly translate complex business logic into working functionality.
Full-time availability preferred, but 32 hours is negotiable (minimum of 4 days per week required).
Resides in or near Rotterdam, or has an acceptable commute.
Proactive and results-oriented.
Strong communication skills (both verbal and written).
Analytical and problem-solving ability.
Collaborative, but also capable of working independently.
Open to feedback and eager to learn.
Dutch language skills preferred (working knowledge required for this role based in the Netherlands).
